One Lone Conservative's Reality in a Sea of Liberal Delusion's
and British and other Coalition members stepping up to fill the void!

In the last week Spain, Honduras and the Dominican Republic have stated that they would pull out their military forces in Iraq citing everything from lack of UN involvement to increased threats to said forces....aside from Spain's appeasement policy (the UN already is involved in Iraq and reports have filtered out that the spanish troops aint exactly happy at being re-called home) and the two other goverments essentially punking out....the recent 'shake-up' if one could call it that in the coalition is nothing but growing pains...

With the 3 goverments pulling out of Iraq....Thailand is considering leaving as well (apparently because their soldiers might get shot at)....other members of the coalition have begun seeking to remedy the loss of troops by increasing their commitment of forces already in Iraq...most notably the UK. Initial plans have from 1,500 to 2,000 to be deployed as part of second multi-national division under their command...with a twist.....this deployment by the UK and other coalition nations will be posted closer near the 'Sunni Tirangle' which would allow them more operational flexibility...other nations that are considering deploying more troops are Poland, Austrailia, Ukraine...and that is beside nations like Austria and Iceland that are getting close to deploying troops for the first time...

In the end all the media hype bout the loss of 1670 troops; 1,300 from spain, 300 from honduras...with 370 from dominican republic; while regretable is only a bump in the road as it were...especially with the very deffinate possibility of reinforcement from current and future coalition nations....I think it's time we gave the proper respect thats needed to those other members of the coalition whose militaries might be smaller than the US..most nations are the world over...but who's contribution is no less comendable!

Inevitably American forces will be the deciding factor in this, it always was, it was nice of the Spanish to pitch into the effort, but Spain’s newly appointed Bolshevik dictator really didn’t change any of the realities on the ground, only thing he proved is that terrorists can get what they want by bombing Spain.

Couchman,
it is good that other countries may supply the troops to replace the withdrawing troops. The US still needs to figure out a longer term policy though. A number of other natipns reach their end of service points in July and have not yet indicated if they will be renewing their troops. Colin Powell also stated yesterday that the US will nto be giving full soveignty back to Iraq in June. This will be a major issue for troop deployment from other countries as some of them have state they will only deploy troops to an soveign Iraq that requests them.

I disagree with your appleasement term though. The Spanish government doing what 90% of it's population wants becuase it spent the past 6 months campaigning on this issue is not appleasement. It's democracy in action. Was the US the withdrawal from Vietnam an appleasement?

And Anthony how is a democratically elected leader a dictator? They are mutually exclusive terms.

Paul.

In fact it is appeasement....the popular party was predicted to win in every poll taken including several done just a few days prior to the Madrid bombing.....and since the very bombing prior to the elections was part of Islamic terrorists grande scheme (check my article on the effects of the Madrid bombing) they were the only ones who gained anything ....remember....the new Spanish PM said he'd withdraw forces unless the UN became involved....interesting that the UN is involved now ...and Spain is punking out....As for the US withdrawl from vietnam...that was after how many years....and US support for South Vietnam never waivered officially...but when the North began a final invasion, the dem controlled congress refused to allow any of the promised support that they themselves had pledged......essentially they turned their backs on our allies....the South still lasted just over a year without US support...
